Always Be Prepared: How To Jump Start a Car – Atlanta, GA

Here’s a funny story.

Last year, I became a licensed driver for the first time. It was a fun time and I finally felt like I made progress in the world. Fast forward to about a month later. I was working at the student newspaper at the time and was about ready to go. It was right before the first day of school.

My car didn’t start. I’m not sure how exactly I got to this point, but it was very depressing. I was so angry after a long Sunday at work, and had to get my mom to come all the way to campus because she was the only one who had jumper cables at her disposal. Plus, I had no idea how to start a car. Now, I do. And it’s important to know how to jump start a car when you instead of freaking out.

Don’t make the same mistake I did. Here are some tips:

Make sure the battery is not leaking or is damaged.

If this is the case, call a professional. Then, make sure that no metal objects are near the battery at all times, because, you know, that could cause a bad fire and you’ll have more than just a dead battery.

Put both cars in neutral, and get started

Put the red cables on the positive lead, while attaching the black cables to the negative leads. After about a minute of giving the dead battery some juice, turn on the car and see if it starts.

Give it another two or three minutes to let the battery simmer

By now, the car should be running and ready to go. You’ll also want to see if any other additional problems come about.

Most importantly, make sure the people that come to your rescue stay with you until further notice

If the car gives out while you’re halfway home and have no one around to help, it’s going to be a big problem. Always make sure help is not far away.

Thankfully, I had help to get my car fixed and back on the road.
